The Quest. The Confusion. The lesson. About Tiles

Homeowners!! How did you manage to survive the process of choosing tiles? Can you at least share with me?

For weeks or even months I’ve tried to figure out on tiles for my 9dao and I have not settled with any. We went to Jalan Ipoh, Jinjang, PJ, Kepong to look for tiles and we were overwhelmed by price mainly… not by choice sad to say. Wahahahaha

All the shops we went sell similar tiles if not from the same manufacturer, its easy to recognize and I really cannot believe the price tag they put on it especially they are actually made from China.

My mum advise me to get tiles from White Horse and said that their quality is good but I doubt it coz their tiles comes from China too, if not all and they claimed of superior quality with quality control. I dont really care what they told me about QC, the chances of them to replace your tiles and redo your whole flooring are just close to impossible, even if you can proof a point of their defective tiles.

Even if you pay premium price for the tiles as long the tiles are made from China, dont have too high expectation I would say. Still cant get rid of China products and most of the tiles came from China, all I could think off is to just get the tiles that we like, within our budget and suit our lifestyle. I also dont deny that China tiles look so much better compare to locally manufactured ones.

Dont believe me? Head on to feruni ceramiche showroom in PJ. They even play the Italian music in the showroom, it feels so grand-ish and you think.. “China tiles here so nice geh?”

For homeowners who have completed their renovation, you guys definitely know whats the difference of the many types of tiles available in the market right? I can tell you, until to-date I am still confuse and I only rely on logo or specification like this if I dont feel like talking to the sales person:

Sometimes talking to the salesperson are just as confusing as looking at the type of tiles available like homegeneous, ceramic, porcelain, gloss, double gloss, nano technology what fuck, glazed, non glazed, matt, rough surface etc.  I can only absorb half of  what they tell me and another half of me wonders away on price and design. Mainly design I would say :)

Besides types of tiles, then they differentiate it by Grades A & B, size of tiles 1200mm x 300mm,  900mm x 900mm, 600mm x 600mm that is very popular in flooring now, 300mm x 600mm, 300mm x 300mm not forgeting odd size, brick size, small squares and even customize size – using tile cutter to cut the tiles of desired size. Brands of tiles manufacturer / vendors available here, Niro, Feruni, MML, White Horse, Venus, Kimgress, Cotto, Guocera and probably more.

Even with so many manufacturers available, it is still hard for me to get the flooring tiles that makes me fall in love, probably what I am looking for are rare? FML.. I dont think so!!!! I’m just hoping to get locally manufactured tiles of Snowy white colour, is that so hard? I got to know MML has snow white tiles but its also made from China :(

There’s even tiles design that looks like wood flooring it look pretty real but quite cold on the feet coz its tiles not real wood, there’s  granite effect tiles, marble effect tiles too and thats not new lah.

Here’s how the wood effect tiles looks like:

So after several visits to tiles shop, at last I found where is Feruni Showroom is. Actually Hubby found it coz my GPS coordinate that I key in is wrong. Feruni ceramiche like other tiles shop does give free 3D render of the tiles layout and design so we accepted their offer to make one for us and here’s the quote we got. What do you say? Nice Showroom, Nice tiles, Nice Italian Music, Nice price :(

Mana ada cukup duit for Feruni tiles lah? They even let us take samples of tiles nicely cut and labeled, I’ll just use that as coaster its a lil heavy though. According to Hubby’s friend advise, we shouldn’t look at tiles that cost us more than RM4 / sq.ft as anything more than that price tag are meant for rich man who is building a bungalow. Yeah, I agree they have millions and millions in their bank for disposal not?

Besides before settling with choice of tiles, we were advised to consider on our furniture carpentry colours to match. For example I asked Feruni salesperson to create the tile design of  a black & white theme at the master toilet, when it comes to the concrete table for the basin, its either I choose Black or white too!! haha!! I thought to add pink tiles on it, but he against it coz it didn’t match. So its logical and against getting black concrete table I have to say I still chose black to match the whole design. I may have to reconsider and start again as dust and water sign shows clearly on black table top.

Back to zero and continue browsing for ideas for now.  I am also thinking of getting spanish tiles  for the kitchen if I can get the right colour to match.

That’s all for tiles searching at the moment.
