    The Chicken that seduces Rice

    May 15th, 2012

How do you like your steamed chicken? Do you chop it into chunks with bone intact and steam it or do you go for boneless chicken breast? For me I always like to to steam the chicken without chopping it, no de-boning before steaming what so ever. This way its juices sealed inside the chicken and the meat is tender yet juicy.

I bet  with this simple dish, your Hubby will eat alot of rice, also if he likes ginger even more rice!!

To begin with, I use half free range chicken for the steaming, enough for 2-3 person. Sprinkle a teaspoon of fine salt on the chicken and leave it. You dont have to rub it  on the skin, I am making chicken that is salty and seduces.  Wahahhaha joking

Also I fried some julienne ginger, onion,  with chinese black mushroom cut in cubes until fragrant with 1 tsp of soy sauce. Set aside.

In a wok, when the water has reached its boiling point, put the chicken to steam. A medium size chicken takes about 15-20 minutes. Turn off the heat and leave it there for another 10-15 minutes to make sure that the heat inside the chicken is still cooking and yet the chicken will not be overcooked.  After that, remove it and give the chicken a cold bath for 5 minutes.

    Ini ayam suka mandi -oh!!

Do not throw away the steam chicken broth, put it back into the steamer/ wok  to keep warm if you like.  Chop the chicken into bite size. I like boneless chicken too, so I’ve deboned the chicken except its wing part. Its easier that way too, as after the chicken is deboned, you dont need to use much strength to chop the chicken and the juices  and small sharp shards of bone ‘terbang’ everywhere. Less cleanup to do.

Plate up the steam chicken with its broth and fried gingers on top.

Try to make this dish and then you’ll know why I said this recipe of Steamed Chicken seduces rice!!

Isetan One Utama Grand Opening 5/11

    May 13th, 2012

Hubby always thought its too much to be taking a day’s leave for shopping. Actually only during Isetan sale I will do that. Don’t Judge ok!!

It was the Grand Opening for the One Utama outlet and I have to wake up early as usual like working days coz need to send Hubby to work.  After sending him, my niece and I head to One Utama for McDonald. Well that’s the plan!! Breakfast before starting to Q for the Free Goodie Bag.

There’s no one in the mall, except workers. Its only 9AM and this is the first time I ever come to a mall this early

On the way to McDonald we past by Isetan and look!!! If Hubby says I am Kiasu, there are 48 people infront of us that are more Kiasu than us. We have to forgone our initial plan of breakfast and head down to Q aswell. 10-15 Minutes later, the Q has tripled and increasing. By 10AM,  they’ve reached 300 Customers mark.

The goody bag was given really quickly, alot of the management level is there to help out-  easily 10 Jepun expat was there. Its a smooth process, as we entered the entrance got our goodie bag and head on to the 1st floor – The Children department. My first target, to get anything in the Children department and get another Children Goody bag!! Wahahhahaha there’s only 100 per day to be given out.

Fitflop for 149MYR!! Pretty good deal and this time they have even more stock in store and really alot of customers are aiming to get those slippers. I’ve got mine last year so  I did not join in the ‘fun’

By 11.30AM I’m done with the shopping, spending RM300 at least and redeemed the Isetan Tartan Tote Bag only for IMC member Free!! Also I got this MYR5 rebate voucher for free for every MYR100 spend and its as good as cash!

Use it to buy for our brunch. Instead of McDonald, now we got to eat Ramen, 2 bowl or ramen and 2 glass of cold Green Tea for MYR35 after deduct from MYR15 voucher we got. I’m pleased. The food is good! This ramen rest, open inside Isetan on the 2nd floor is only open from Thursday – Sunday. Hochak!!! Nice Nice.. they even have a Korean Rest namely ‘Won’ not very sure, they have a sushi bar too, and Hokaido Ramen rest, and 2-3 more coming up!!

Now we are heading to the parking. If you are an Isetan member, don’t forget to get the Parking Rebate Voucher ya!! They give back MYR2 Rebate Voucher for now. Probably in future, it will be Parking Voucher like in KLCC – not sure.

Poor Jessminn, the bags are heavy and she have to drag  them.

    Our Pendapatan for the day!

This is the PWP purchase. Bought this beautiful frying pan for MYR119, N.P selling at MYR589 wor.

The Isetan Tartan Tote looks like this. By 11.45AM the I Club staff announced that all 500 bags was redeemed.  Habis!! You must be thinking how come I keep track of the time, I just happen to be there okay. I’m not obsessive of keeping track of time, it just happen that way on  that day.

Actually I did not buy anything for myself, the frying pan is for the new house, and the toys are birthday gifts!! None for myself.

    I am proud!!

Good Eye Specialist Dr Kok Howe Sen MB BCh LRCP & SI, FRCS(Opthth), FRCO (London)

    May 10th, 2012

Last week my papa went for a cataract laser surgery for his left eye first at Eye Specialist Clinic Kok & Kok. My mama got the contact of this doctor after she kepoh listen to other aunties conversation in a clinic and mama did not hesitate to ask for the contact from the strangers as this doctor is rumoured to be really good.

The clinic opens for appointment everyday, 7 days a week which is pretty convenient for us working children to bring our elderly to see the doctor without the need to take leave from work. My papa went for a check up and was diagnosed with cataract on both eyes.  According to papa,  Dr Kok appointment is very full and thus he got his appointment for the laser surgeries 3 weeks after the check up.

I dont believe at first, but 3 days ago I bring papa for a periodical check up and I saw that the clinic was tremendoulsy crowded. So many cars parked outside of the clinic  (they have ample parking space) and the clinic even have a parking assistant to help out. Although the clinic was crowded however we spend less than 30 minutes waiting for Dr Kok to call my papa and check on his treated eye. I was assuming it will take ages, or at least 1-2 hours. It was quite a surprise and proven that what Dr Kok introduce in his clinic is a good and effective system and I think other clinics should follow.

Papa also got another appointment for the laser surgery on the other untreated eye and he got his appointment at the end of the month almost 3 weeks wait again.

Here’s the business card of the clinic:

Business Card: Eye Specialist Clinic Kok & KokLocation Map to Eye Specialist Clinic Kok & Kok

    Why I recommend this clinic:

The charges of the cataract laser treatment is very very reasonable. Dr Kok offered his services to wider general public who needed the treatment more affordably. Some people may think this might be a business strategy (volume over price) however I’d like to think that Dr Kok offers his services to those who need with a minimal fees &  in a way -  is giving back to the society. My papa said that he do not need to pay for his periodical check up (not like other clinic who will charge every single time a patient visit). Enough said here, I dont want to spoil market and I shall not reveal the $$$.

Skillfull, Quick and Precise. A quick look at his appointment book I saw that he has at least 5 appointments a day for eye treatment surgeries, and he do not compromise his care for his patients.

Looking at Dr Kok, I’d say he is only in his 30′s and he has long hair at shoulder length. He has this modern rugged Doctor look. He is also very quiet, probably he wont speak 2 full sentence with you I assume that by talking to the patients will result in longer patient conversation attendance thus more other patients need to spend time waiting. All questions will be answered by his nurse outside of his room and all Dr Kok do is perform the surgeries himself, call the patient himself, check the condition of the patient himself and tell them giving them assurance of their eyes condition.

An applause for Dr Kok punctuality too. When I bring papa for the check up, papa said appointment with Dr Kok is between 1PM- 6PM, and Dr Kok start calling patient names at 1PM and by 1.25PM its my papa turn.  At least 10 freaking patients before my papa, at 1.25PM its my papa turn. Only 25minutes wait.

Went inside the room Dr Kok check on papa eye and said ‘Good job! Your eye recovering beautifully!!’. Then my papa ask when can he make appointment for the next eye, and Dr Kok showed papa out and said his nurse will answer all his question. Papa was in the room less than 3 minutes. Wahahahha isn’t Dr Kok fast?????

Some may think that Dr Kok does not provide personal touch like talking to his patients and not listening. But I think its a good system established. Every patients ask the same thing, and by answering all those question to every patient means longer waiting time. Meanwhile to diagnosed eye disease is pretty straightforward as everything can be seen through his lenses ( lenses: I dont know those clinical terms lah). So by having this systems, his nurse are trained to answer the patients questions and they can ask as much questions as they want  again and again without wasting other patients time waiting and waiting and waiting for hours!! The result is happy patients as they can go home as soon as they can and not just spend time waiting in clinic.

This is what my papa told me. Dr Kok has different nurses to prepare the surgical room, different nurses to answer patient and book appointments. He easily have 8-10 nurses at his clinic at one time.

Talk about specialization and this is how his clinic works.

    Easy Sunday Meal, Baked Potatoes

    May 7th, 2012

Lazy Sunday morning.. er probably ‘mor-noon’ or ‘ning-noon’. bleh.. what am I doing try to create a new word? What do you usually do on a Sunday? Do you like Sunday at all? I am more a Saturday person as Saturday you know that the next day is Sunday and you dont have to go to work. Saturday is always better than Sunday. Sunday for many people are meant for – do nothing day. For me is the other way round. Its the day where I cook and do housecleaning and visit my mother. I have a heck of a busy schedule on Sunday itself, usually I have no time to squeeze a nap or go for a movie on Sunday except  to hog the tv remote control while waiting for the laundry to be done. Totally Domestic Affair at home!! That’s how I spend my Sunday, so Auntie.. ewww :(

I should go shopping, go facial, tea with frens and go to gym. My goodness!! But get me  wrong, I enjoy my  cooking time at home and cooking keeps me happy and so, its okay to trade shopping with cooking (for a while).

On a Sunday I prefer to use the oven as I can do so much at one time while cooking. Roasting or baking is one of the best cooking method on a lazy or busy day. The result for that, Mood lifting Meal,  Good Food at home.

Please.. try to make this at home. Bake a potato!!

I gather what I have at home, Jack Potatoes Medium size, you dont have to peel. Give it a good wash or scrub, drizzle and coat evenly with olive oil, a pinch of salt and some pepper and bake the potatoes about 170C for 1.5-2hours. Its easier to cook the potatoes if you prick it with fork but I dont like it that way. You can bake the potatoes the night before if you like, maybe before bedtime just set the timer probably bake an hour then reserve another half of the baking time to do it the next day if you want to have a quick and fast meal.

Also prepare some meat, I am using here Ayamas Black Pepper sausage, one yellow onion medium size and 3 eggs. For the Eggs I made a scramble egg and put aside for the sauce making later.

How to know if the potato is ready? As I said I dont like to prick it, so test it with your hand. You will be able to squeeze the flesh of the potatoes without too  much resistance. Remove it from the oven, let it cool for say 10 minutes. Cut the potato to half and then scoop  the flesh.  You dont have to be perfect on how much flesh left with the skin on, just try not to break the skin and make a big hole out of it will do, that’s why cooling the potatoes is important to achieve that. Simply chop the potatoes flesh and add a pinch of salt, butter, parmesan cheese and whatever seasoning that rocks your mind. In my opinion potatoes taste  best with just salt and butter.

Put back all the potatoes flesh into the skin, use  aluminium foil to wrap the skin too like shown on the photo. The reason for the aluminium foil is it functions like a potato holder and protects the skin from burnt / charred when I put it into the oven for the 2nd time. Put some cheese on top of the potatoes filling and bake again for 10 minutes.

While waiting for potatoes in oven, prepare sauce!! Very simple.

Fry the onion and sausage cubes prepared earlier until fragrant. Add Omelette. Then open a can of baked bean and cook for 2 minutes until everything is hot and cooking hot hot hot. Then open another can of whole tomatoes just pour everything in and bring to boil, add a pinch of salt and some pepper. The sauce is ready. Simple right?

Now, the baked potatoes are ready to be serve.

Just put the baked potatoes on the plate, remove the aluminium foil and serve generously with baked bean sauce.

This is one of the most satisfying Sunday Afternoon meal you can cook anytime at home.  A squeeze of lemon juice if you like!

Tomato Cream Pasta with Chorizo in 30 minutes

    May 2nd, 2012

Last weekend I went to HomeDec Expo at KLCC and bought 5 copies of GoodFood Magazine for only MYR10. Eventhough it is past publications but I do not mind, afterall when does recipes has expiration right? I’d always love cookbook and everytime I passes by any bookstore I’ll be at the cookbook section.

I did not take leave on Monday like most of my colleaque does and tts the Labour Holiday the next day. I love holiday and since I do not need to work the next day I decided to make this hearty meal. I know Hubby need some comfort food and I’d like to keep his tummy warm.

Went to Village Grocer and bought a pack of Pasta (at last no more pasta at home) and saw they also selling Chorizo. F**k liao, so expensive lah!! But I always wanted to try Chorizo ever since  I saw Nigella Lawson use it in many of her recipes.

The original ingredients needed for this recipe as per the photo above, as usual I did not follow and prepared a variation of it based on what I have at home. Truly Mrshomely.

First in a pot cook the pasta following packet instruction usually it takes 10-15 minutes. Then caramalized the onions and honey bake ham by slowly cooking it with olive oil. I am using the Olive Oil infused with Feta Cheese. I dont usually use the olive oil in such a way, it is quite a waste to use it for cooking but I figure I am using feta cheese later on so I steal abit from the bottle. Its so fragrant I tell ya!!

Caramelizing… yummmmm. Once its done, dish out and set a side.

Now to make the sauce  snip the end of the Chorizo sausage package and squeeze out the fillings. Dont waste the sausage skin, its slightly harder than normal sausage skin and chewy. So I chop it into tiny tiny pieces and fry everything together. You need not to add anymore oil, as the pan already coated with olive oil. Dont forget to mash the chorizo feeling ops fillings, slow cook it until fragrant. Add chilli padi if you like some spicy to it, or pepper or chilli flakes on your own preference.

Then stir in 1 tbsp of tomato paste and 3tbsp of cream. The recipe call for creme fraiche but I do have balance of Whipped cream from the tiramisu I made recently, so I subsitute whipped cream with cream fraiche. All I need for the similar flavour was to squeeze some lime juice to the pasta befor serving.

When the pasta ready, add into the pan, add the caramalized onion and ham and stir evenly until coated with all the yummy sauce. Add some pasta water into the pan if the sauce is too thick or dry, a pinch of salt please.

Tadaa!!! Serve with parmesan cheese or crumbled feta cheese with fresh herbs like spinach or sweet basil. I prefer feta cheese as I think parmesan too strong for this meal.

My variation of pasta compared to the original recipe printed :P

Do you think Bersih 3.0 was unnecessary?

    April 29th, 2012

Today I spend 2 hours looking at the blank post. I dont know whether I should write about it or I should get on writing post that I am putting off writing. Neh.. I will write about it when I feel like it. Right now in my heart, I feel the heavyweight on my chest. I want to get it all out here in this post, but I sure know Hubby wont approve of it. My blog, yet I cant rant in here.  I can only talk about this with my closest friends and at times I felt so tired of saying the same thing repeatedly. Conclusion is,  You can’t ‘Solve’ a person issue at all.

Then I look back at my blank page

Then I browse on home ideas site

Then I cannot leave my post without writing anything, especially today is such an eventful day. But then I remembered I haven’t done Hubby’s Income Tax Filing. Dammit!!  I dont have the mood to file it either, look at our government! Full of Corruption. I would rather my tax money goes to www.globalbersih.org.

Speaking of which, where does our tax money goes to? We still paying toll everywhere we go, I dont see any improvement in our country infrastructure, our citizen living condition never get better, we live in fear everyday when theft and robbery are getting more and more rampant while our policeman getting from physically unfit to fat to plain lazy catching criminals. In Malaysia you can easily point out a fat policeman.

It is sad but true. Toll, Theft, Robbery, Corruption, Rosmah life’s saving vs 24 Million Diamond , Najib vs Althanthuya injustice, The death of  Teoh Beng Hock vs MACC, and all the daily political bullshit  has define our country as “Its Malaysia, Truly Malaysia”.

Now, for those who thinks and disagree with Bersih 3.0 today.

Do you even know why we have Bersih 3.0??????

A dear friend, explained it here:

To all who says, “Why bother with Bersih, just cast your vote if you’re not happy” Guess what? Bersih is to make sure your vote counts. With decades of creative “adjustments” & gerrymandering, BN just needs a 15.4% of all votes to win 51% of the seats in parliament. Add to that the laws recently passed last Thursday removing transparency in the voting process. If nothing changes, your vote doesn…’t count.

100,000 votes for 1 parliament seat in urban areas vs 5,000 voters for 1 seat in Putrajaya or the small towns of Pahang. That’s how u win 51% to form the government with only 15% of the people supporting you. And you get that 15% by feeding them a daily diet of state-owned newspapers and TV, and top it off with RM500 in cash for dessert. Then u increase prices of goods to that they spend most of their waking hour working to make ends meet so that they won’t have time to think about the country’s future. That’s how you stay in power for so long while, milking the country dry for personal benefits. (via  Tan)

Now, Do you still think BERSIH was unnecessary?

(some genius posted this on FB, don’t know who took the photograph but Thank you!!)

    WE NEED BERSIH!!

    ItS NECESSARY!!!!!!
