Stay away from Butterfish for Butter Ass

I learn a life lesson before the arrival of Y2012 from the fish I ate at one of the Italian restaurant in Jaya One. I shouldn’t quote the name of the restaurant but the choice of fish they serve and failure to inform the diners of what are the side effects of it leave me with one feeling – H A T E !!!!!

To make it short,

STAY AWAY FROM EATING  BUTTERFISH!!!

Read on below here if you would like to know why, but its a disgusting experience I am going to write here. Up to you. Your choice to continue below or leave. Dont say I didnt warn you.

WHAT Happened

On 31st Dec 2011 I went for a workout at the GYM, I cycle, I Ran, I go for Sauna, and shower and then drink my coffeee while waiting for Hubby to pick me up after his golf session.

When I reached home, I have strong urge to pee, ok pee wasn’t the symptom. I just want to pee. So after I am done and wash I stand up and saw what looks like ‘Orangy Chilli Oil’ in the toilet bowl.. floating. I was alarmed at the sight of it!

First thought: Am I dying? Have I got any disease? OMG on New Year’s Eve?

I touch my ass**** and it felt so oily!!

Its disgusting!!

It smells like very strong Palm Oil that has gone bad.  (What would you expect it to smell? Smell Good from your ass****?)

Seriously???

What’s happening?!!  I dont feel anything and the liquid just drip out  and I dont have stomach pain, feverish nothing!

I quickly clean myself, showered and ran downstair to tell Hubby what happened.

His reply to me was: Smelly Ass.WTF!!

Then I type ORANGY OILY DROPS + DIARRHEA and  start googling.

Apparently what I am experiencing was the side effect of consuming the tasty creamy and delicious Butterfish (at the same time I imagined the flashbacks of how much I enjoyed eating the fish that taste like cod fish). Butterfish also known to some as escolar or snake mackerel or white tuna which may show the symptoms of anal leakage after 24-36 hours of consuming this fish because 20-30% of the oily contents from this fish cannot be digested by human thus the ugly experience.

That’s just great!! ’D O N T   L A U G H’!!

In some countries this fish was banned, read  here/Escolar

Then I start warning my friends and family of the danger of eating butterfish, some of them remarked that the Butterfish Sashimi taste great. Okay probably Sashimi might not gives you anal leakage but a cooked one certainly does.

So on the 1st day of New Year 2012, I wore a very long Sanitary Pad and are very concious of my fart. I also have to stay home so that I dont embarrass myself in public with the oily explosives.

What a ‘Happy’ New Year I’ve got!

Mackerel Fish No Waste Meal

I have a pack of Kembong fish in the fridge and god knows how long its been there but not me. I have no idea at all. Perhaps I should label the food/meat I put in the freezer with dates from now on.

I thought I can steam the fish ala sweet and sour asam but because the freshnest of the fish is in question so I change my plan. Thought of throwing it into the dustbin, but if Hubby knows about it I am as dead as the fish! Just kidding.. I wont waste it!

So I decided to fry the fish only.  There’s nothing to show about frying the fish. So I didn’t take any picture. I just pan fry the fish.. no deep frying in my house.

After frying the fish I change my mind and change my menu.

First with the fried kembong fish (mackerel) I peel the flesh of the fish meat and set aside. I also painstakingly remove tiny fish bones if there is any as I doesn’t want to choke anyone. There’s still bits of flesh left on the stomach part and I just left it be, as I don’t really fancy eating fish stomach.

Then with some chopped bird’s eye chilli, finely chopped onion and a little bit of salt all add to the fish meat and fry on high heat using a pan. I use the same pan I fried the fish earlier, so I didn’t have to add more oil, there’s not much oil left either.

Fry Fry Fry on high heat until you reach a point where you cannot breathe because of the spicy air that make you choke and gasp and run for tissue because you start to sneeze and your throat getting itchy. You may turn off the heat and stop frying by then.

The end result of the Kembong fish will be like this.

Thought of just serving this with plain rice, but with the extra time, I decided to add soup for this meal. I use the kembong fish bone to make soup.

Put all the fish bone in a small pot and boil for 2 hours, with low fire. You may want to know what else I put in the soup.

Nothing……….

After the soup is ready, then pour the soup through a sieve to remove bits and bones from the fish. Again safety first, I doesn’t want to choke anyone. Boil the soup again and add vegetables.  This time I use instant rice instead of cooking rice with a rice cooker. The instant rice can be bought from any Japanese market, just add boiling water and wait for 30 minutes for it to cook.

To serve, pour the soup over the rice, and top with the fried spicy kembong meat and enjoy!

The soup is very sweet because, there’s about 4-5 fish bones in it in a small pot, enough for 3 person only. I dunno why there’s no fishy fishy smell in the soup, but I still add a little bit of pepper powder just in case. Don’t forget salt to taste too.

This meal must be serve hot!

You may prepare this in advance, just boil the soup again before serving.

Steamed Garlic Freshwater Patin Fish

Its been a while since I last cook.. don’t know why so busy. Busy at being lazy. Its also time for us to finish the fish in the fridge, so this time I have successfully steam the freshwater patin fish without the  need to put too much ginger to kill the fishy taste. With the fresh fish and my cooking skill, it turn out the steam fish is so delicious!! Puji sendiri.

This is how I get rid of the fishy smell of the fish. (Actually this patin, so fresh, and don’t have smell, but I choose to do it this way so you know the alternative way to kill fishy smell). First of all, clean the fish. Then boil the water in the wok, and put on slow fire once the water came to the boiling point. Bath the fish with the hot simmering water for 2-3 minutes to remove the blood water and the fishy smell. Discard the water, and put the fish into a large steaming pan or plate.

I also experiment with oven baked garlic, to make the patin fish more flavourful and fragrant. To bake the garlic, pour the olive oil onto the garlic, coat evenly and bake it for 15 minutes.  Once the garlic is done, mashes it and coat it ontop of the fish.

To make the sauce,  fry thin strips of ginger and add soy sauce about 3 tablespoon. I like to use the space brand available from Kuantan. Pour the cooked sauce onto the fish, I also add 2 tablespoon of XiaoShing wine. Put the fish into the wok for steaming for about 7-10 minutes or until cooked.

Tadaa!!! Garlic Patin Fish

Lazy Asam Fish Kembong

I’m not a good cook, but still my food is edible la.. I learnt to cook the Asam Fish from my mum of course but I omit a lot of ingredients I think because I’m lazy, and I dunno what ingredients I’m missing too. No cookbook or Chef Mama by. Still I’m happy with the result kekekekekeke

Let me show you how I cook this Asam Fish.

First cut the Onion. I like a lot of Onion in my Asam Fish, or I put abt 5 big Yellow Onion.
Then I fry it abit.

This is the chili giling I use, my super good driver of my boss bought this from nearby kampung.

Then I add in the Chili Giling, and I actually put 2 packets in it, coz I like a lot of gravy and super spicy till my tongue got numb.So spicy till its hard for me to swallow a lot of rice and I can drink a lot of water till my stomach burst. Kacau Kacau sing song, when u finish singing 1 of your favourite song, you add the Tamarin Juice.

I did take a photo with my hand squeezing the Tamarin seed, and make the juice or watever it’s called, looks very ugly so I’m not going to show it here.
Put as much juice as you like, if you like sour, put a lot, if dun like put little la pandai pandai la.

Add in really fresh kembong fish. The last time I cook asam fish and I clean like 10 fishes, my hand is so filthy smelly, maybe the fish not so fresh and I use a lot of water, soap, detergent, lemon, vinegar, watever I can find and think of to wash my hand and soak my hand in warm lemon water still I can’t get rid of the smell. So this time, I don’t need to clean the fish at all, coz my very good BIL cleaned it for me and its super fresh. Fresh Kembong fish from Kuantan!  Yey yey yey

Slowly simmer the fish, let it rot cook like maybe 20 minutes, add in salt, and maybe a bit of soy sauce. I know I gila, I put soy sauce, but it taste nice wor.
