New Zealand Day 4 Wellington City

We decided to drive to go to Wellington a 30 minutes drive away from Plimmerton.

How can you missed Wellington for this?

We parked our car near to the Te Papa Tongarewa Museum (Free Admission) and take a walk at the harbour front.

Its Freezing Cold!!!

I actually enjoy the walk along this quaint  harbour front with the backdrop view of hillside houses.

Some of the photos of the city… The YHA New Zealand in the heart of Wellington City Centre overlooking the harbour front with the New World Supermarket strategically just next to it.

We went to the family restaurant in Wellington for dinner at Fishermans Table which offers, Good View, Good Food, Reasonable Price. The restaurant is very busy, so reservation is recommended.

Hubby had ‘Waihau’ -Fish of the day.

 Awesome!!!!

I had Steak with Garlic Butter. Yummy!!

After dinner, we drove up hill to Mount Victoria for a panoramic view of the Wellington at night.

This beautiful real panoramic view : Source from wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Victoria,_Wellington. I sucks at taking night view photos.

 Lord of the Rings Connection

Mount Victoria was used twice as a location in Peter Jackson‘s The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. The very first footage on the project was shot off Alexandra Road on 11th October 1999 Called the “Get off the road” scene. Followed by the “Escape from the Nazgûl” scenes a few hundred metres to the North. Later an old quarry at the top end of Ellice Street was used as the Rohirrim camp at Dunharrow. [3]

Cold Noodles with Tuna

Hubby ask me what’s for dinner a million time on the way back from work and I replied him bluntly that he should just have cornflakes with cold milk. He of course not happy with my reply but sometimes I prefer to skip cooking dinner so I have to pretend I am in bad mood to get my ways. When we got home and as I reach for the fridge for milk, * SCREAMS* No cold MILK!! Damn Damn Damn.

Hubby of course didn’t know what’s going on so I told him I am such a good wife, eventhough I am moody I will still cook him a nice meal. I have to think of something to cook randomly.

Aiyooooh.. Weather is so hot! What to eat? Porridge make me sweat more. Soup make me sweat too. Spagetti ah? Everyday also spagetti. Have to weigh my options based on weather this time. Hubby said I always on the aircond in the living room and the electricity bill skyrocketed. Cannot blame me what? Its the weather! I am forbidden to open wide the sliding door at the balcony or else all the freaking hateful bloodsucking mosquito would come in and attack the mosquito magnet. (mosquito magnet here refers to my hubby).

Check my fridge and here’s what I have

  • A pack of zuchinni bought from Cold Storage for RM5.99

Check the can food section

  • Still got Tuna in chilli oil

I still have lots of varieties of noodle left. I always stock up on noodles and if something happen during the Bersih 2.0 I think my supplies can last me for 2 weeks at least. heheheheh

I have to reduce my noodles stock anyway,  I decided to make cold noodles. I am not a fan of cold noodles and I hardly order any cold soba when I dine at any Japanese restaurant as I prefer piping hot noodles to burn my tongue so that I dont eat too quickly.

I think cold noodles is  a perfect dish for ridicously hot weather, its light and healthy too.

Here’s how I make them.

First, boil a a large pot of water with a couple of salt added. When the water is at boiling point, add the noodles and cook until al dente. Once the noodle is ready, remove it immediately from the salt water and give it a cold ice water bath,  ideally. Or you can just leave it aside and add a couple of ice cubes on the noodle and leave it alone to cool at room temperature so that the ice melt or chuck it into the fridge.

Get your can of tuna ready, discard the chilli oil you dont need it. Leave aside

Blanch the sliced carrot and zucchinni with another pot of hot water until slightly soft. Do not overcook it or the texture of the vegetables will turn mushy. Leave the vegetable to cool, or again add ice cubes. Meanwhile, thinly slice onion and you dont need to cook it at all. set aside.

Mix the vegetables and slice onion together, add some olive if you have. Throw in the cold noodles and toss (discard the ice water please).

Then you may add the tuna in chilli, a couple teaspoon of olive oil, a pinch of salt and toss/mix again.

Tadaa!! Cold Noodles with Tuna

To add a bit of zing to your palate on this dish, eat this cold noodle together with the garlic tomato puree!!

Baked Potatoes & White Lady

Yet another Simplish Meal, for Simple People like me, Simple Food, Simple Preparations and Simply Delicious.

Ingredients are:

  1. One small packet of cream
  2. 1 cup milk
  3. Pepper and salt to taste
  4. 4 slices of pancetta or substitute ( Proscuitto is not suitable for this dish)
  5. Bakers Potato, thinly slice
  6. Herbs like basil can be added

Firstly, drizzle a bit of olive oil on the casserole. Then line it with pancetta with the meat overhang outside the casserole. At the same time heat the cream and add in milk in a separate pot. Bring it to slightly below boiling point, add in herbs, pepper and salt to taste.

Then stack the potato slices in the casserole and pour in the cream mixture. Make sure the cream covers all the potatoes. With the pancetta overhang, just fold it back to the casserole, covering the potatoes like in the photo.

Slow bake the potatoes for 2 hours at 150 -170 C.

Also Hubby tried to make cocktail using the bottle of Cointreau he got for me recently. Use a shaker, add ice, mix Cointreau with Bombay Sapphire and Lemon Juice. Voila! You’ve got White Lady!

 Enjoy!

Wendy Birthday Celeb @ Brotzeit Midvalley

Last week, went to Midvalley again, to celebrate Wendy’s birthday this time. She is October baby too and our friendship developed 8 years ago when both of us working in JFE Steel. Happy times are really short come to think of it. Well, eventhough we no longer working for JFE, but our friendship are still very strong until to-date and I am so glad for that. Thanks Wendy, I hope both of us still remain in contact for many years to come.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WENDY & CONGRATULATIONS

Birthday Celebration @ Brotzeit

On Monday, went to Midvalley with Wendy Tham,  a very dear friend of mine, to celebrate my birthday. As usual we talk non stop whenever we meet up eventhough we chatted almost daily, its like having a relationship with her wahahhaha

She gave me this for my birthday this year and expect I wear it for the next Chinese New Year. Okay I will!!

We went to the newly opened Brotzeit German Restaurant at Midvalley, located at the EX- Tai Thong  lot. Its only a week’s old restaurant, and the restaurant was packed even on Monday!

Each customers’ table, receives a plate of appetizers compliment from the restaurant. The one from far left is liver pate, middle  verycheese, on the right is made of fat. All taste yummy to me.. I especially like the cheese 1.

Chef  Helmut came to sit with us for a little chat, and he recommended a german beer on draught for me to try., its call blalalalblabla Beer, I forgot.  So I ordered a 0.3cl glass of beer, and got this large piece of pretzel compliment from the chef again. The pretzel with coarse salt on top suppose to go better with beer wor..

Wendy wanted to try the German sausages, while I wanted to try the Today’s Special Pork Knuckles, so the chef asked the kitchen to prepare this dish off the menu for us to try.

The restaurant only serves fresh meat, therefore you will not find the Pork Knuckles/ Pork Ribs on the menu. As explained by Chef Helmut, the meat supplied to them have to pass stringent quality criteria set by Brotzeit, and they do not accept frozen meat. Once they got the fresh meat delivered to them, they will marinate it for a day and only serve it the next day. So if you would like to try their specialty menu, its better to give them a call to avoid dissapointment!

Its a no surprise that the German Pork Knuckle is Brotzeit signature dish, and we were lucky they have it on Monday. The crackly skin is very crunchy (unlike other restaurant- hard as wood). The meat is tender, not salty and the sauce really complement its taste especially when eaten together with the soft but crunchy saur kraut. If you are worried of the dish being too fat, don’t! I hardly can find much chunky pork fat in it. I guess its mostly melted or the fat below the crackly skin just melt in your mouth.

Look at the huge portion, aiyo obviously cannot finish the huge portion of this main dish, so have to tapau. This always happen when eating out with Wendy, we ordered too many, and always cannot finish our food geh.. wahahhaha

We asked for help to cut the knuckle, and its presented nicely with the big chunk of bones standing like in the pic. Yumz..

Photo, Wendy with the Chef a.k.a. Owner

Happy Birthday to Wendy too!! My turn to treat her next time, Mc Donald ok ka?

Thank you Wendy, for the lovely dinner, drinking the bitter soup with me at Kong Woh Tong, and run to the toilet with me after that. Very hilarious, and please don’t wear that shoe anymore I don’t want to see u PK like in JFE lor..

Buffalo Wing Poser, Horny Duck Linguinni & Ah Neh Neh Lamb Shank for Birthday Celebration

Yesterday was my 26th …err 32nd birthday, but I still felt like its my 26th birthday, because I am young and beautiful as always. Okay, I know y’all must be having slight nausea here, sure got something wrong with you , better go for health check lor.

Guess some of you may be asking what I got for my birthday from Hubby? First of all, I’ve already got my birthday day for this year since last year. Very confusing hor. For 2010 & 2011 year, my birthday gift  is my Longines watch, then for 2012 & 2013 year’s gift I got it last month is my Canon G11. So thats it. Maybe I will get my 2014 & 2015 year’s gift in year 2011. wahahahahha hope my hubby cannot keep track of the gifts he got me la, so I can keep on getting advance gifts. Wahahahahhahahaha

Now comes the dinner celebration… .. Drum Rolling…….!!!!! We went to Bijou!!

Jeng Jeng Jeng

Bijou Mon't Kiara

Cupcakes corner

Types of Cupcakes

The interior @ Bijou decorated with girlish pink & white, nice place for girlfriends to gossip here as its secluded and quiet. During the day time can camwhore with natural sunlight..unlike during the evening, too dim for  any photos lor.

Interior

I ordered Mojito.. firts time trying it.. I called it the Virgin Mojito.. wahahahha

Virgin Mojito

Drum  rolling again…….. Pong Pong Pong Pong… I want to slam my head to the wall… but I have to refrain as its my birthday…

Bijou FOOD SUCKS!!!!!

Buffalo Wings: Why its a let down? Taste like fried chicken dip into sweet ketchup chilli sauce, renamed the dish to Buffalo Wing Poser

Linguini with Duck Breast: The duck meat is not in slices as I expect it to be, the n the linguini cook in Soya Sauce? I love pasta but wow, “Ham Dou” (Salty until) I keep on drinking Mojito while eating the pasta, imagine its like eating pasta dip in soya sauce and chewing the duck meat like chewing the coconut fibre. Because of its saltiness, better call it Horny Duck Linguini.

Lamb Shank: With rice? Okay, the lamb tasted okay, but they didn’t give more sauce and  the dish is very oily, maybe from the aubergine on the side. This dish I call it Ahnehneh lamb shank

Actually I wanted to get a piece of cupcake to try, but after the food came, and the disappointment  I don’t think I want to try it anymore. Thanks Hubby for the lovely dinner outing with me, this restaurant not gonna be in our list.

While waiting for the food to arrive, we ordered sate ayam! Super Nice! Thumbs Up! Must try this!

Fried Calamari. We finish 1 plate and order 2nd plate later.. too good! and Fresh! Not rubbery / chewy at all.

Giant Mantis Prawn. Guess what! Price at RM25 per piece. Freaking Expensive.. but fresh la.

Bamboo Clam.. Giant wor.. not so to me la… I tasted Giant 1 before.. this is just normal size jek

Lala lala Lala lala .. biasa oni

Giant Crab.. sweet and sour sauce.. RM50 per kg .. Sky high price for this size.. Not worth it.. I think Greenview Seafood Crab is better.

” Psst… ny.. bila bring me eat Giant Crab at Greenview ah?”

We also ordered ‘Bak Cheok Har’ (prawn) but I didn’t take the pic, too busy eating crab.

Total Bill RM278 include  all above dish, plus Fried Kangkung Belacan, 3 big bottle of beer, 2 drinks, 1 coconut.
